When running a live stage via Webex Webinars, everyone apart from the host will join the meeting as an attendee. Stage managers will need to promote people to panelist so they can unmute themselves, turn on their videos, share their screens or act as a co-host. This article goes through the steps on how to change roles in Webex.
Panelists will be able to share their screen, unmute themselves and take other actions that attendees cannot. It is important to ensure that only the right people are panelist to prevent accidental interruptions when a presentation is being giving. Check out the article below to learn more about conference settings.
Promoting attendees to become panelists
Step 1: Click on “View All Attendees” in the Participant Panel
Step 2: Right-click on a name and select Make Panelist
That's it! The person is now a panelist.
Changing the role of a panelist
You may need to change a panelist to another role. Below are a few examples of why you may need to do this.
- You need a back up host so you make a designated person a co-host.
- You have finished your hosting duties and someone else is taking over for you. You should make the new person the host.
- Once a speaker is finished giving their presentation and does not need to continue speaking or sharing their screen, we advise you make them an attendee again so they cannot interrupt the next presentation.
To do this, right-click on the panelist's name, hover over the Change Role option and select the new role. You can make them:
- a presenter so they can share their screen (click here for more information on screen sharing permissions)
- a host so they can take over the technical running of the event
- an attendee so they can no longer unmute themselves and accidentally interrupt the next speaker
- a co-host so they can assist you and act as the back up stage manager in case you gets kicked out of the meeting
What other controls do Stage Managers have over attendees?

- chat with the specific attendee
Warning!
